Outreach for the New Charter

Preparing a strategy and marketing material for the new charter will be needed. We should fit this into the schedule. Some topics to be related to are AI, Digital Twins, IoT. We should work on different material for different channels and agree on an overall strategy.

In the main call today @draggett , @mjkoster and @dezell has expressed interest in supporting this work.

We propose to have calls on this on Wednesdays after the main call using the same zoom link. For the duration of the charter extension. Biweekly. I will create the calendar entry.

Strategy and Goal: Attract new adopters and get new contributors to the standards.

Topics to talk about: These should be general topics we can use to help people get into WoT. If the explanation is specific, it can be outside of their scope and say "wot doesn't work for me"

Channels or media to prioritize: Website and Social Media (LinkedIn, Mastodon) and Communities (posting on Reddit communities)

• Goals:
  • Get information on the technology and on the standardization work
  • The landing page should deliver the message quicker than the proposal right now in the branch
  • How can you use WoT (the message) vs What is WoT -> Both should be expressed in the landing page
  • NOT: showing the different group structures
• Missing things:
  • Testimonials would be good. How people are already using WoT. Why they are using it (what is the value to them). https://www.w3.org/press-releases/2023/enhanced-web-of-things-connects-diverse-iot-ecosystems/#testimonials . We can also get them from developers instead, which is easier to get.
  • News (or similar) to show that there is activity in there. Liveliness is important.
  • Case studies: a more detailed version of the testimonials. https://www.youtube.com/@WoTCG/videos can be leveraged.

Some side notes:

• Treating like a product/technology showcase
• In the participate page(s), we should encourage people to create issues and also mention, like in an issue template, that they contribute to the standards.
• Understand their journeys of personas we target.
